Bachelor of Science Tourism
In a joint degree with Wageningen University we offer an academic bachelor’s degree program where you will research the developments in tourism and its impact on society, the environment and the economy. The Bachelor of Science Tourism is the only academic program in the field of tourism in The Netherlands.
In this academic bachelor’s program you will combine economic, social and environmental sciences. You will study theories and concepts, will receive intensive training on research methods and will learn how to critically evaluate these. You will also get practical experience.

Admission requirements
You can be admitted to the program with:
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, including Math Standard or Math Higher.
- A European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma, including Mathematics (3 hrs).
- Another secondary or high school diploma that equals the Dutch vwo diploma, including Mathematics.
English language requirements
You will also be required to demonstrate sufficient results on one of these tests:
- Cambridge C1 Advanced/ Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), with a minimum subscore for Speaking of 169
- Cambridge C2 Advanced/ Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English, with a minimum subscore for Speaking of 169
- IELTS test (minimum overall band score of 6.0, and minimum subscore of 6.0 for speaking)
- TOEFL test (minimum score of 80 internet-based, and minimum subscore of 20 for speaking)

Year 1: Introduction to the phenomenon of tourism ([Breda)
You get introduced to the social, economic and environmental sciences and their contribution to tourism. Through disciplinary courses you get an overview of concepts, theories and their application in sustainable tourism. The main teaching methods used are lectures, tutorials and field assignments.
Year 2: Deepening your knowledge (Breda)
You will deepen your knowledge of tourism development, policy, governance and law, organisational behaviour and business management. You also expand your academic skills and study philosophy of science. In the interdisciplinary courses in the fourth semester you will explore directions for sustainable tourism development. This year includes a four-week international research project.
Year 3: Broadening your view (Wageningen)
In the first semester you choose a minor - this may be towards your master’s degree or pursuing your personal area of interest. You can - for instance - choose a minor in international development studies, management studies or environmental sciences. You can also choose to do your minor at another university in the Netherlands, or abroad. In the final semester you will gain an insight into the principles of entrepreneurship and the latest innovations in policy, technology and sustainability. You finish your major with a bachelor’s thesis.

Tuition
n the academic year 2022-2023 the statutory tuition fee for bachelor's programmes is €2,209. First-year's students pay €1,105.You pay the statutory tuition fee if you:
- have the Dutch nationality or the nationality of another country that is part of the EEA, or the Surinamese or Swiss nationality and
- have not already obtained a bachelor's degree from a government-funded program in the Netherlands at the start of the academic year.
In all other cases you pay the institution tuition fee of Wageningen University (€15,700.00).
Qualification
After your graduation from the Bachelor of Science Tourism degree program you are entitled to the degree of Bachelor of Science
Continuing studies
After finishing your Bachelor of Science Tourism you may choose to continue your education in master's programs in tourism, international development, economics & management, or environment & landscape. Our graduates have enrolled in more than 35 different master studies at over 20 different universities domestically and abroad.

The Bachelor of Science Tourism prepares you for a broad range of MSc programs or direct career opportunities. With strong knowledge of sustainable tourism development, graduates entered careers in the domains of Leisure & Tourism; Environmental Sciences; Society & Culture; Economics & Management, and International Development.
