City College Plymouth
City College Plymouth is rated ‘good with outstanding features’ in the latest Ofsted report. Ofsted is part of the government body which checks the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, outcomes for learners and the effectiveness of leadership and management.
The report highlights the quality assurance procedures are robust. The inspectors praised that action plans for improvements are well considered and implemented showing the College continuously wants to improve. Learners stated that they feel very safe at the College. Importantly, it was recognised that the ‘teaching is effective, resulting in good outcomes for learners and good development of the skills and attitudes they require for employment.’
Her Majesty’s inspectors also found that learners have a good understanding of their potential, what teachers expect of them through the targets they set in their plans, and what they need to do to improve their work.
International students at City College Plymouth receive great results with a pass rate of 97% with 45% achieving distinction, 44% merit and 11% achieving a pass grade.
City College Plymouth has great facilities to help students succeed on their course. We have recently built a £13m STEM Centre and been certified a ‘Maths Centre for Excellence’. There are 2,000 computers, free student Wi-Fi, a theatre, gym, music room, a training fuselageand an extensive library and e-library. The College resources have been designed to support creative and innovative learning environments.
City College Plymouth has also recently celebrated multi-million-pound collaborative bid success for the new Institute of Technology where we will revolutionise digital, engineering and manufacturing technology education to establish a network of Institutes of Technology across the country. State-of-the art facilities will grow and develop higher education programmes at City College Plymouth such as the UK’s first Marine Autonomous Vehicle Foundation Degree. Courses like this will address the regional skills gaps and shortages and help stimulate growth in this world-leading sector, positioning Plymouth as one of the world’s centres of excellence for marine engineering and marine autonomy research, development and education.
