It takes refined organisational skills to pull off a large event and an Event Management degree can help you succeed in this major industry.
From sporting championships to music festivals, conferences and corporate events to wedding planning and charity fundraisers, the events industry is big business. It contributes almost £40 billion to the UK’s economy, accounting for 35% of the UK’s visitor economy.
Events play a critical role in entertainment, cultural appreciation, tourism, destination marketing, civic or national pride and community cohesion. As members of the Association of Event Management Education (AEME) and EuroCHRIE, the Tourism and Hospitality Educators, we follow industry trends closely to ensure your skills and knowledge match employer needs. You’ll undertake multiple industry visits and field trips, at home and abroad, as well as hands-on experience of managing real-life events.
If you have a passion for events and want to become an event manager, our course will help you realise your ambition – 100% of our 2014/15 graduates were in work or further study after six months (DHLE 2014/15).
This dynamic course is designed to prepare you for the fast-paced and exciting events industry with a focus on practical application throughout the course, through industry or voluntary placements. You’ll also have the chance to run your own event in aid of charity.
We combine the study of events with management theory, providing a broad-based business education in the context of the sport and event industry. You’ll learn how to apply business principles, such financial management, marking theory and strategic management to the solution of sport and event management problems. You’ll also study the concepts, characteristics and operations of events and festivals, particularly from a commercial perspective.
We offer a broad range of event-centred modules, for example, in areas such as facilities management, the entertainment industries, how to manage a live event and international event management. You will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience volunteering to support the organisation and smooth running of conferences in Europe and overseas. Past students have also undertaken work experience at FIFA, the Wasps, Ricoh Arena and Twickenham as social media assistants or helping with event operations.
Coventry University has an established tradition of accepting a wide variety of qualifications studied by students in schools. However, the University reserves the right to specify which qualifications can be used to assist applicants in meeting a conditional offer made by the University.
Some courses have interviews as a mandatory part of the selection process. Other courses may offer a voluntary interview to help you and the course team confirm the course is a good fit between your motivation and abilities and the demands of the course. However, if the interview is successful you may not require as many UCAS points as a standard offer would require.
A-Level applicants are required to have three A2 Levels. Coventry University may include AS grades within an offer but we are not able to accept two AS Levels in place of one A2 Level. In some courses it may be necessary for entrants to have passed specific A2 Levels in nominated subjects. Please see the course pages for more information.
International Baccalaureate Diploma
Coventry University accepts the International Baccalaureate Diploma for entry to all courses. However, in some cases we will require you to have studied certain subjects at Higher. For more information on our entry requirements for individual courses please visit the relevant course pages.
