Hospitality and Tourism Management Certified Coffee Professional, Certificate
Coffee is more than a drink. It is an integral part of the world s most highly-traded global commodity: food. In fact, coffee is the world s most traded food. This is a complex industry with a long and storied history in Seattle. This certificate includes learnings in all five areas of coffee education that the Specialty Coffee Association deems necessary to become a coffee professional: barista skills, coffee roasting, management skills, cupping, and coffee buying. Furthermore, the program delves into the history, societal and cultural impacts, and economics of the global coffee industry. Learners completing this selection of coursework will be ready to own, manage, and/or work in the global professional coffee industry depending on their career pathway.
- Learners will utilize the fundamental vocabulary and operating principles of the coffee industry.
- Learners will conduct themselves in accordance to professional ethics and values of the coffee industry, including comprehending the juxtaposition of social, cultural, and economic impacts in the industry.
- Learners will identify suitable employment opportunities by matching personal and professional interests and abilities with positions within the coffee industry.
- Learners will be able to explain the supply chain process, roasting process, barista skills, and general supervisory skills necessary in the coffee industry.
Admission requirements

- Students must achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA and a minimum 2.0 GPA in each core course to attain a certificate or AAS.
- Not all classes are offered every quarter, at night, online, or on the weekends.
