Tourism & Hospitality Management Diploma – Adventure Guiding
Train on Vancouver Island to become an adventure guide and gain the skills to own or operate an adventure tourism business. Develop essential knowledge to work across cultures, with consideration towards environmental sustainability and risk management. Balance classroom theory with applied learning.
The adventure guiding option is designed for students who wish to have it all - to gain the skills necessary to be an adventure guide working in the outdoors but who also want to gain the business skills necessary to operate or own an adventure business. In your first year, you will receive a balance of hands-on learning and theoretical classroom learning. You will develop essential knowledge for working across cultures, with consideration toward environmental sustainability and risk management. In your second year, you will develop a broader understanding of the tourism sector while further refining your field guiding skills. This diploma option pairs our popular Adventure Guiding Certificate with elements of the Tourism & Hospitality Management diploma.
Admission requirements
- C in English 12, IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent
- C in one of Applications of Math 11 or Foundations of Math 11; or B in one of Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11 or Workplace Math 11; or successful completion of MAT-033; or completion of Principles of Math 11 or Pre-calculus 11, or assessment
- Adventure Guiding option applicants must also complete the medical forms and physician's assessment as required for admission to the Adventure Guiding Certificate.
In addition to above academic requirements, high school graduation requirement and English proficiency requirement apply to all international applicants.

Year 1
Year 1 and parts of year 2 of the Adventure Guiding option are offered on a cost recovery basis. Tuition for the field focused skills reflects the cost of delivery and industry certification. This diploma option pairs our popular Adventure Guiding certificate with elements of the Tourism & Hospitality Management diploma.

Co-op – mandatory for all students
Students must complete in the Fall term as a prerequisite to Co-operative Education Internship Work Term in the Spring. Co-op work terms must be completed between first and second term for full-time students and prior to the last course term for part-time students.
