This Foundation Degree course is designed for people who are looking to progress to a management career in the hospitality-related industries and is awarded by Nottingham Trent University. It will develop your knowledge and skills of hotels, resorts and restaurants within a wide range of catering and hospitality operations to progress your career in a management role, or if you are looking to begin a management career in the industry.
About the course
With its strong practical emphasis, students develop a broad range of skills and an understanding of the global hospitality industry. Students can specialise in one of three pathways: culinary arts; events management or hotels, resorts and restaurants management. All of our lecturers have excellent, in-depth industrial knowledge and experience. We have long-standing links with local, national and international companies such as: Pine Brook Country Club (Boston, USA); Fairmont Hotels Group (Canada); BSG Interns (Florida); Landmark Hotel (London); Alea Casinos and Marco Pierre White restaurants (Nottingham and UK).
A five-month industrial placement period provides work experience at first-hand. Our students visit a wide range of establishments throughout the world, or find their own placements closer to home. There are opportunities to attend study tours abroad - as well as an annual calendar of local and national visits.

Assignments are industry-focused to develop the relevant skills of managing tasks and solving problems. Most modules are either individual or group assignments, some of which can be practical, using local industry contacts. Some modules include formal examinations.
Your career and progression
Following this Foundation Degree course, there is a wide range of career opportunities within the industry, or you could continue study with our BA (Hons) Service Sector Management top-up degree (also awarded by Nottingham Trent University) or similar top-up degree at another provider.
Recent hospitality graduates have gone on to successful careers with prestigious organisations such as: De Vere Hotels, The National Trust, Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre and London's Sketch restaurant amongst others.
