If you are creative and communicative and you love foreign cultures and (sustainable) international travel, this Tourism Management course at NHL Stenden may be exactly what you need.
During NHL Stenden‘s Tourism programme, you will gain plenty of international experience. The course also has a strong focus on sustainable tourism. You will learn about the impact of tourism on the culture, environment, and economic needs. You will operate at the tourist frontier, specialising in travel products and services across the globe. This way, you work on the future of tourism, while at the same time earning a worldwide-recognised bachelor's degree.
Your career opportunities are many and varied, and with new jobs opportunities surfacing every day, you can either end up working for a tour operator like TUI, or a cruise line, city branding company, airline, or government organisation. At management, administrative or consultancy level. Or you could start your own business with the skills you learn here.
Leading up to this bright future, you will gain plenty of international experience, with a final internship of 7-10 months abroad. This last year alone will significantly increase your chances of finding an international job down the line. You may even choose to continue studying for your master’s!
Admission requirements
Academic
To be admitted to one of our 4-year bachelor programmes, you will need to meet the admission requirements as outlined in Dutch Higher Education law. For 4-year bachelor programme at NHL Stenden, you need a diploma that is at least equivalent to an NLQF 4/EQF 4 level (Dutch/European Qualifications Framework)* and comparable to the required Dutch diploma.
Language
All non-EU/EEA applicants are required to submit an English proficiency test with their application to show that their English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in their studies.
NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences accepts four kinds of official language tests in accordance with the Code of Conduct International Student in Dutch Higher Education:
- Academic IELTS 6.0 (with an advised minimum of 5.0 for each skill)
- TOEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based). Original test results must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to NHL Stenden. The TOEFL institution code for NHL Stenden is C652.
- Cambridge ESOL score FCE-C (169, or higher).
- TOEIC 670 (Listening and Reading) and 290 (Speaking and Writing).
3 Year Track
To be admitted to one of our 3-year bachelor programmes (also known as fast tracks), you will need to meet the admission requirements as outlined in Dutch Higher Education law. Your diploma must be the equivalent of a Dutch pre-university high school diploma (VWO).
Short Track
Have you successfully completed general secondary education? Have you completed a subject-related apprenticeship, or already gained work experience? Then NHL Stenden may be able to help you shorten the duration of your studies.
Each application to the Short Track Programme is assessed individually and can vary widely, depending on educational background and the study programme in question.
