The University of Bolton traces its history back to the foundation in 1825, of the Bolton Mechanics' Institute, one of the first to be established in the UK. Throughout its history and in its various incarnations, this institution's primary purpose has been to provide educational opportunities for those who wish to better their situation and their prospects.

We boast a multi-use four-court sports hall available for hire for a range of activities, such as badminton, table tennis, 5-a-side football, volleyball and much more.
We also have social sport activities, fitness classes and a 50ft climbing wall with many sessions FREE for University of Bolton students.
If you are a little more serious about your sport and fancy having the opportunity to compete for the university in competitive leagues this can be done by joining a club at the University Sports Centre Reception.

Student lifestyle
Thanks to the living costs in Bolton being significantly lower than other major cities, our students can spend their money and time enjoying what the town has to offer. Alongside retail shops, bars, restaurants and the Octagon Theatre Bolton in town. students also have social opportunities on campus.
Accommodation
Orlando Village is the preferred and only Halls of Residence recommended by the University of Bolton. The facility provides 381 single study, self-catering bedrooms and are popular with international students. It is a 10-minute walk away from our campus, close to both bus and rail links.
Orlando village is in a fantastic location, being only approximately a 10 minute walk away from both the main campus and the town centre. The halls are also close to the bus and rail station, and are within easy reach of a range of supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Morrision’s and Aldi.
Our Students' Union Office can advise you of how to search for private accommodation and what to look for when entering into a contract with a private landlord. Organising private accommodation would mean contacting the landlord of the property to make arrangements.
