Campuses
The University of Derby campus consists of four different sites:
- Kedleston Road (which is the largest and where you will find the main library)
- Markeaton Street (art and design studios)
- Britannia Mill (dance and fine art)
- One Friar Gate Square (law, criminology and social studies)
A new Derby Business School is set to open in 2024/2025, in the city centre. The Business School will be a modern hub for students and local start-up companies, and will contain world-class equipment including a virtual reality suite, stock trading room and creative labs. All sites are close to each other, the city centre and accommodation. There’s also a bus that runs between the sites and the centre of Derby.
Student lifestyle
The University of Derby welcomes more than 2,000 international students from over 100 countries and is a friendly, welcoming environment. The city itself is a diverse, safe place for students, and has a Purple Flag status meaning students can enjoy a safe, affordable and varied city life. Derby is a compact city, offering both fun and excitement, and peace and quiet. University sites, accommodation, and the city centre are all located close to each other – either within walking distance or a short bus ride away.

Security is a top priority, with 24/7 staffing and a secure entry system for safety.
Halls are a great way to make friends as the accommodation team organises free events such as day trips and social events to help you meet people. All bills, including gas, electricity, and water bills are included in your fixed-price rent so you don’t have to worry about unexpected charges, helping you to budget. You also will receive a free welcome pack with kitchen and bedroom essentials when you arrive.
