University of Gloucestershire
Education has come a long way in the last 200 years, but so has the University of Gloucestershire, and today the University provides education and skills for life, whatever age you are. Promising a brighter future from a proud past, living and learning at the University of Gloucestershire is an education for life.
After nearly 200 years of teaching, the University of Gloucestershire offers cutting edge facilities in inspirational locations, cradled by the rolling hills of glorious Gloucestershire. The University is passionate about what we do, and practising what we preach. The motto, in spirit and in truth, means turning visions into reality, and in the 21st century they’re setting their sights on reducing the environmental footprint.
Running on green electricity since 1993, whether it’s a free student bus service or extra recycling bins, the University of Gloucestershire constantly aspires to new ways of delivering a sustainable future. The University believes in education for all, not just in the classroom, but in how they live their lives.
No matter what you choose to study, helping our students become better citizens of the world is at the heart of what they do.

Student lifestyle
TheStudents’ Union (SU) is a registered charity and sits as a separate organisation to the university. It’s funded partly by the university and partly through revenue made from selling tickets, advertising space, merchandise through the SU Shop and other activities. There is a SU office on every university campus so you can pop in for a visit at any time to get information, advice or if you just fancy a chat!
As a university student, you will be automatically enrolled as a member of our SU. Run by students, for students, the SU aims to improve university experiences and make student life exceptional! Our SU exists to:
- Represent students and give you a voice to change and improve your university learning and experiences.
- Help you get the most out of your University life through social events, activities, societies, clubs, and sports.
Accommodation
With around 1,380 rooms in halls of residence and plenty of university managed shared flats and houses in Cheltenham and Gloucester, there are lots of affordable accommodation options for you. Whether you’re a new or returning student, you can choose to live in our halls of residence, or explore university-approved private housing and lodgings.
Halls of Residence
Halls of residence are a type of accommodation that’s available to all students – new, returning, postgraduate and international.
There are currently around 1,900 self-catered rooms available in halls on or near our campuses – each are close to the centre of Cheltenham or Gloucester and served by the university bus service.
Halls of residence may be university-managed or managed by a partner.
Lodgings
With university approved lodgings you can rent a room in a private home where the owner lives in the same property.
Each year we provide information on bedrooms available in private homes that are available to rent without a fixed term or a tenancy agreement – this means you can stay for as long as you need (as agreed with your landlord).
You will live in the same home as your landlord, and there are often a variety of flexible options available. Lodgings offer students flexibility, and can often be quieter than other types of student accommodation.
