University of León
The University of León (ULe) is a public institution of higher education and research founded as an autonomous entity in 1979. It is based on two campuses, in the cities of León and Ponferrada and the total number of students is currently 14,000 from which around 1,000 are international students from more than 50 different countries.
It offers a full range of undergraduate, master's and postgraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area in all branches of knowledge, organized in 10 different schools: Engineering, Economics, Education, Languages and Philosophy, Veterinary, Biology, Law, Health Sciences, Mining Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. Each school features libraries and IT rooms and there are central libraries at each campus. Moreover, the University has a sports centre, language centre, Confucius and Camoes Institutes, cafeterias and many other amenities.
The University of León complements its teaching and research activities with a wide variety of training workshops, university extension courses, cultural and sporting activities, boosting business creation, supporting innovation, international cooperation and exchange, working with both young and older people... all of this with the aim of becoming an integral part of our community.
ULe has strong links with institutions and companies with more than 2,400 agreements and collaboration frameworks and has signed bilateral exchange agreements with prestigious Universities from more than 40 countries.

TalentUnileon 2021 Scholarships
The TalentUnileon scholarships are scholarships of excellence aimed at international students who want to pursue their undergraduate, master or doctorate studies at the University of León.
International students who have obtained a higher average grade of at least 8 points out of 10 in their studies prior to the degree, master or doctorate respectively, may benefit from this program.
Within this call and within the framework of the Collaboration Agreement between the University of León and Santander Universities Spain of Banco Santander SA, this program includes, for the 2021/2022 academic year, 3 scholarships in each modality that will have additional funding provided by Santander Universities and will be considered TalentUnileon - Santander Universidades scholarships

Student services & facilities
ULe´s International Relations Office provides individual assistance to the candidates throughout the admission process. To ease the international students’ arrival and help them settle into life in León or Ponferrada, ULe offers a welcome week and buddy program, and several activities are organized along the year like an International Week, International Coffees… the university also provides a wide range of services including sports and cultural activities.
All this, together with the lively atmosphere and friendly environment make students feel at home very quickly and they generally say their study experience will be unforgettable.
Campuses
Universidad de León has two campuses, in León and Ponferrada. Located along the Camino de Santiago, both historical towns have excellent connections and safety records.
Furthermore, since both León and Ponferrada are conveniently sized cities, the campuses are within walking or cycling distance, and there is also inexpensive public transport.
Student lifestyle
Food
León has a very rich gastronomy. The restaurants and bars in the city offer many types of food ranging from inexpensive to expensive places offering dishes that can be quite elaborate. Also, the "tapa" culture is very present in León. From your first days here, you will be able to go out for tapas ("salir de tapas") in all of the different neighborhoods of the city and enjoy the small plate ("tapa") that is given for free when you order a drink at any bar.
Leisure
León has an exciting social life all week long. The University of León organizes many cultural activities such as theatre, cinema or life music.
There are also a lot of different kinds of groups and associations where you will be able to share your hobbies and passions. It is an excellent way of getting to know local students. Join now!
The Barrio Húmedo is the most interesting and fun part of Leon to spend your evenings. Have some drinks and tapas before the party in the clubs, this is a typical night in León. You will love it!
Sports
Sports are very popular in the province of León. There are clubs for almost every sport and some teams like basketball and handball have a rich tradition. Our geography and climate provides the opportunity for many outdoors sport including cycling, hiking and even winter sports.
Throughout León you can find many good quality sport facilities. Moreover, the University of Leon with its “Servicio de Deportes” gives you the opportunity of doing your favorite sport at their very various sport facilities and organizes outdoors activities in the mountains nearby.

The best way into our society is through a local student. Request a Mentor student (Padrino) upon registration or once in León and join the different associations.

Housing in León and Ponferrada is affordable, with plenty of options to meet all preferences: sharing a flat, living in a university dorm, or with a host family.
