Why study at University of Portsmouth

Portsmouth is consistently within the top-ranked institutions in the UK for student satisfaction, which is reflected in the teaching quality, but also the experience that students enjoy with us.

Students can live a few minutes' walk away from their faculty buildings on campus, with only a 5-10 min walk to the seaside.

The cost of living and accommodation in Portsmouth are significantly lower than in the larger cities in the UK, meaning you'll be able to live more comfortably here. The city is so compact that you don't need to take any public transport and most students/lecturers get around by bike.

The city has a population of around 200,000 and over 10% of this is made up of our student population. We have 5,000 students from overseas on campus.

The Global office supports all overseas students with visa advice, plus anything that you may need throughout your time with us.

We have a Careers and Employability centre on campus, which guides students in securing their first part-time jobs in Portsmouth, but also they help students in getting a graduate job when their degrees are completed.

We have a city centre campus and we are the only university in the city.

Student lifestyle

Portsmouth is in the middle of the south coast, which means the city is really well connected. London is just over an hour away and there are ferries that leave Portsmouth daily to France and to Spain.

Students have an active outdoors lifestyle due to our warmer weather compared to cities further north. We have the most sunlight of any UK city!

Students can stay in on campus accommodation, or if they prefer to do so, rent private apartments or shared houses in the city, nearby the university.

The computer science course is been amazing, it was the best decision I made! The university supports you in every aspect that you need! I love the library and study spaces spread out on the campus, it is the best place to study. Another good thing to note is the city, right next to the sea, very focused on students and lots of opportunities!
