Universitat Rovira i Virgili
The Rovira i Virgili University (URV) is a young and dynamic university serving the needs of society, with an international outlook and a close relationship with our immediate socioeconomic environment.
Located in Tarragona, approximately 100 kms south-west of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia, the URV trains future professionals under the precepts of European harmonization, as a way of opening doors to a world of work without frontiers. With this aim, we currently provide over 170 different programmes of study in all areas of knowledge and at all levels, courses which are currently enjoyed by over 18,000 students, with 34% of our 2,700 postgraduate students being international.
Our commitment to scientific research and teaching innovation has led us to become one of the leading universities in Spain and Europe and to be listed on the international rankings alongside the best universities in the world. The special emphasis that the URV places on research allows it to play a leading role in regional development, especially in those areas that are closely linked to the region’s economic strengths: namely, Chemistry, Energy and New Materials, Nutrition and Health, Wine-making, Tourism, Housing, Heritage and Culture, ICT & Digital Economy.

Student lifestyle
In the province of Tarragona you can really enjoy a high quality of life. Known as the Costa Daurada (Gold Coast), the city of Tarragona has a vibrant cultural heritage and has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO thanks to its breath-taking Roman remains, and the nearby modernist city of Reus was the birthplace and early home of the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. Its strategic position and good communications mean that the region is the second most important economic area in Catalonia with a highly dynamic and varied economy.
Accommodation
The Universitat Rovira i Virgili has two different residence halls for students in the city center of Tarragona. The Sant Jordi Residence Hall offers you singles or double rooms. The Tarragona Mediterrani Residence Hall has 80 studios for one or two students. However, you can also find accommodation in any of the residence halls, hostels, apartments or shared flats around the city.
We recommend you to find a temporary accommodation for your arrival, and once you are here, change into another location after finding a suitable long-term accommodation. You can find different options for accommodation in Tarragona, Reus and Tortosa.
In our city it is very common to share a flat with other students. If you are going to stay at the URV for a long period, renting a room in a shared flat is the best way of meeting new people and to assimilate in your new city.
The URV has an accommodation office that allows those who are looking for accommodation to contact those who have rooms available and the other way round.
