University of Winchester

We are a thriving university with a deep commitment to teaching and research excellence. Established in 1840 by the Church of England, everything we do is underpinned by an unrelenting commitment to our values.

We are passionate about seeing individuals flourish here. The dignity and wellbeing of individuals is important as are their opinions and views. We are committed to working globally to ensure equality and justice for all. Everyone is welcome here. Staff and students will learn to value and appreciate others, whoever they are and whatever their background. Together, we will be supported and challenged to reach our full potential. Our staff and students are nurtured to embrace equality, diversity and inclusivity to the full. Staff and students are supported to fight for integrity and justice in a world of compromises and prejudice.

There are many reasons to study at the University of Winchester – but the one to consider most is that you will become part of a safe and supportive community. The institution has a long history having first begun in 1840. The University combines this heritage with innovative excellence in teaching and learning.

The University of Winchester is situated close to the city centre, one hour away from London Waterloo, in a beautiful wooded setting overlooking the South Downs. There is a range of programmes to study and it is possible within Combined Honours to focus on two subjects that interest you to create the course that is right for you. The original Anglican Foundation established a strong commitment to public service and public good which still persists today. The culture of the University of Winchester is informal and the emphasis is on you unlocking your potential, developing a clear sense of direction and becoming the best you can be in your chosen career.

Student lifestyle

Student life is centred on our King Alfred Quarter, within walking distance of the historic cathedral city of Winchester. In recent years, the King Alfred Quarter has been added to and renovated to enhance its facilities with the latest industry-standard equipment, digital networks and AV technology.

Based in the King Alfred Centre, Winchester Student Union is run for students, by students. We are an independent organisation from the University itself, and we are dedicated to representing and supporting you as students, as well as providing a wide range of opportunities, activities and events for all students across our Education, Welfare, Activities and Services Zones.

Accommodation

We allocate accommodation on a first-applied, first-allocated basis so we recommend you get your application in as soon as possible. All accommodation is University owned, managed or approved, either on- or off-campus.
